SURF SPOTS
5 Minute Drive from Whale Tail Hotel | Intermediate Level Surfing
Located between Uvita and Dominical in the south pacific, Hermosa Beach (beautiful beach in Spanish) is a hidden spot along the coastal jungle road. It’s right next to the highway driving from Dominical to Uvita, and about 5 minutes from the Whale Tail Hotel. This is a spot that is best for intermediate level surfers. The break has good and fun waves for all levels, especially at high tide. During some seasons the waves can turn from intermediate to advanced. You can find multiple vendors with local food and drinks all along the beach.

Dominical is well known worldwide for its powerful waves, with several breaks to look for along its 1.5 miles of beach. Dominical is also host for local and national surf tournaments. On weekends you will usually find at least one contest happening.

BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE SURF LESSONS
If you are a first-time surfer or want to improve your surfing skills, this is the lesson for you! Whale Tail Surf Club’s beginner and intermediate surf lessons are open to any level and age. We are going to teach you all the basics of surfing; such as carrying your surfboard, attaching the leash, safety tips, paddling techniques, standing up on the surfboard, and catching waves. Our surf instructors will start with thorough instructions on the beach with you, then you’ll head out to the water together to practice and to ride your first wave.
Besides learning the basics of how to surf, our lessons will equip you with the proper surfing etiquette and safety knowledge plus how to care for your equipment in the surf, while ensuring you are up and riding by the end of the two-hour session. The surfing lessons run on a daily basis all season, however, our times vary with the tides and conditions each day. Our surf instructors are certified Costa Rica lifeguards and experienced surf instructors so you can be confident you’re in safe and expert hands at all times.

Includes: surfboard, professional instructors, rashguard, transportation, fresh fruit, and beverage
Cost: From $70 per person

ADVANCED SURF TOURS
Costa Rica is a popular surf destination among surfers the world over. We offer tropical beaches, warm water, and good waves up and down the coast. Playa Dominical is located in the southern zone and home to one of the best and most consistent beach breaks in the country. You can always count on shoulder-high waves to ride. We also have point breaks nearby.
Whale Tail Surf Club’s Advanced Surf Tours are designed for experienced surfers looking for an expert hand to help you get the best out of your surfing time in Costa Rica. No need to stress figuring out where the best local surf spot is for swells or where the right place to paddle out is. Our instructors will be with you at all times to give you valuable tips about all the best surfing spots.
We offer daily surf tours and multi-day surf packages to all popular surfing breaks around the area: Dominical, Uvita, Ojochal, and Quepos. All surf tours include transportation.
Cost: $80 for Solo Person
$20 per person extra on the tour

PRIVATE LESSONS
Whale Tail Surf Club’s Private Lessons offer you the chance to spend as much time in the water as needed while learning to surf at your own pace. You will receive the constant and undivided attention of a professional surf coach and lifeguard throughout each session and the use of our equipment held at the Dominical Surf School.
Whether you are new to surfing, need support moving into bigger waves, or simply want to improve your surfing skills then these sessions are for you. We can arrange lessons to suit you any day of the week and during any season. All you need to do is give us a call to discuss your specific needs!

GROUP LESSONS
Family and friends group surfing lessons are a fun and effective way to learn to surf! With a student to instructor ratio of three-to-one, Costa Rica Surf Club has gained a reputation for the best hands-on instruction and the quickest, most effective path to catching and riding waves on your own. Group surfing lessons cover everything from surfing’s basics: carrying your surfboard, attaching the leash, paddling, popping up, and reading and anticipating waves.
We also cover surf etiquette and beach safety. With our hands-on approach, our instructors do more than just demonstrate. We are right there in the water with you, helping you every step of the way constantly giving you tips, making adjustments, and providing invaluable feedback.
Group surf lessons are especially fun with a group of friends, family, co-workers, and others. Bring your friends or make new ones who are also starting out in the wonderful sport of surfing. Most students get to experience the thrill of racing towards the shore on a wave during their very first lesson.
All of our surf lessons include a rash guard and a surfboard per student. Just bring sunscreen, a towel, and your sense of adventure.
